Galawain Shrine

Bounty Point of Interest in the Galawain's Tusks Region

The Context

This point of interest was built around an ogre bounty. We realized that we didn't have any in the game so far, so early on I had the idea. Why have just one ogre when you could have two?

The ogres' story is actually somewhat tragic. One of them became dreamthralled, and the other remained with them despite that. The player can even find matching friendship bracelets on their corpses.

We had to keep the arena fairly open since the ogres need such large navmesh. I also decided to include skeletons with this fight, imagining them as some ancient warriors come back to life.

I envisioned this space as an ancient plaza, so I included column details, which would also serve as small kiting opportunities, as well as ramps, stairs, and these dried up mineral pools for height variation.

The player's most-likely approach to this space. The stairs on the left lead to the actual shrine, as well as some puzzles. I opted for no cover grass here to increase the difficulty, but observant players can still find a few hanging poison pods which they can shoot to get some damage during the fight.

Skeleton waves spawn on the ledges as well as the mineral pools, forcing the player to deal with them while they're being attacked by the huge ogres.

This fight turned out to be about as difficult as I hoped it would be, due to the massive amounts of skeletons, and having to deal with two very aggressive and tanky ogres at once. I think the arena provides engaging cover opportunities, and good flow.
